Nance S. Wilson
Nance S. Wilson, Literacy Department, had her article titled “Teaching & Learning with E-Readers: Promoting Deep Learning or Deep Trouble?” published in the 2014 Technology in Literacy Education SIG Newsletter. It was co-authored by Vicky Zygouris-Coe and Victoria Cardullo and can be found on the Technology in Literacy Education website.
Also, Wilson presented “CCLS and Developmentally Responsive Teaching of Young Adolescents” at the New York State Middle School Association Conference held Oct. 10 in Verona, N.Y.
Teagan Bradway
Teagan Bradway, English Department, was elected to serve a five-year term on the Modern Language Association (MLA) Sexuality Studies Executive Committee. She also gave a presentation on LGBTQ+ kinship narratives at the annual MLA Convention held in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Jeremiah Donovan
Jeremiah Donovan, Art and Art History Department, had his recent ceramic work selected by jury for inclusion in the National Juried Small Works Show at the Windsor Whip Works Art Center in Windsor, N.Y. This exhibition will open Saturday, Dec. 1, and continues through Saturday, Jan. 12. In August, Donovan and former B.F.A. student Xena Holzapfel were selected to exhibit their ceramic art work at the Elmira Arnot Art Museum Biennial Gallery Gala, an invitational exhibition of artists from throughout the Northeast.
Kevin B. Sheets
Kevin B. Sheets, History Department, was recently elected to the North American board of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in History. Also, he was appointed to a three-year term to the Organization of American Historians’ Committee on Teaching, which works to improve the teaching of history in K-12 and college settings.
Celeste McNamara
Celeste McNamara, History Department, presented a paper titled “Illicit Sex in Early Modern Venice” at the 2020 American Historical Association Conference in New York City, in a session organized by the Society for Italian Historical Studies.
Jordan Kobritz
Jordan Kobritz, Sport Management Department, was quoted in an NBC news article on ballpark netting after a young girl was struck by a foul ball during a Yankees-Twins game at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 20.
Kevin Dames
Kevin Dames, Kinesiology Department and Sutton Richmond from the University of Florida had their article titled “A static posturography guide to implementing time-to-boundary” published in the Journal of Biomechanics. This work summarizes the state-of-the-field in time to boundary methodology, interpretation, and application for postural stability assessments. As a supplement, they also share a full MATLAB script and sample data to produce the outcome for universal access to the methodology, a resource hitherto not available. Lack of comprehensive, transparent methodology presentation in past literature has limited comparisons among studies or feasibility of establishing normative data given possibility of dissimilar data processing routines.
Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, is the author of a chapter titled, “The Unitary Executive and the Bush Presidency” appearing in the new book, The George W. Bush Presidency, published by Nova Publishers.
Jean W. LeLoup
Jean W. LeLoup, professor emerita of Spanish, had her article “Challenges and opportunities in language teaching: ‘Connecting’ the dots,” published in the August issue of the New York State Language Association Journal. Her article addresses the “connections” goal area of the national standards for foreign language learning and provides a blueprint for foreign language educators to use in meeting this goal area.
