Benjamin J. Lovett
Benjamin J. Lovett, Psychology Department, gave an invited talk to the American Association of Medical Colleges, the association that makes and administers the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Lovett discussed research on testing accommodations for students with disabilities and when accommodations would be appropriate on the MCAT. His book, Testing Accommodations for Students with Disabilities: Research-Based Practice, was recently published by the American Psychological Association Press.
Eileen Gilroy and Jill Toftegaard
Eileen Gilroy and Jill Toftegaard, Communication Disorders and Sciences Department, presented a poster co-authored by Timothy Davis and Catherine MacDonald, Physical Education Department, at the annual American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention on Nov. 16 in Boston, Mass. The poster, “Interprofessional Education (IPE) in Clinical Training,” highlighted the ongoing collaboration between graduate speech pathology clinicians and undergraduate adapted physical education students.
In 2015, ASHA established a strategic objective to advance IPE within the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. With these changes, IPE is being incorporated not only into clinical practice and continuing education programs, but into student curriculum and training as well. The presentation was well attended and inspired other clinical training programs to talk about developing similar programs.
Caroline Kaltefleiter
Caroline Kaltefleiter, Communication and Media Studies Department, has been awarded a Community News Champion Fellowship Grant from the University of Vermont. She is one of 33 fellows representing 21 different states. Her grant focuses on expanding the production of radio programs/podcasts at local audiences. She will serve as the executive producer and host of a new public affairs show that will feature local officials, along with area journalists and student reporters across campus media. The program will be aired on WSUC-FM and will be archived as a podcast and available on various streaming sites.
Kevin Dames
Kevin Dames, Kinesiology Department, co-authored an article, “Averaging Trials Versus Averaging Trial Peaks: Impact on Statistical Tests,” that was accepted for publication in the Journal of Applied Biomechanics. The paper addressed the methodological issue in biomechanics of how to select peaks from time series data. The authors demonstrated, through experimental data and phase shifted sine waves, that peaks are significantly underestimated when selected from an average profile.
Kevin Dames
Kevin Dames, Kinesiology Department, and alumna Megan Wagner ’18, had an article published in Journal of Sport Rehabilitation. Wagner and her faculty mentor, Dames, completed this project with support from an Undergraduate Research Council Summer Research Fellowship. Wagner is currently pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy at D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y.
Diane Craft
Diane Craft, Physical Education Department, was appointed in May as a full-time consultant for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as the subject matter expert in physical activity in early care and education. In this role she assists the CDC and states’ departments of public health in promoting the physical activity of young children. Her IPA appointment continues on a part-time basis throughout the 2015-16 academic year.

Lori Schlicht and Abby Thomas, Advisement and Transition, presented a poster regarding Academic Alert and a concurrent session titled “Enhancing Faculty Engagement in Advising” at the first annual SUNY Academic Advising Conference held in February in Albany, N.Y.
Bonni C. Hodges
Bonni C. Hodges, Health Department, was an invited participant in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s (RWJF) “Working Forum on Healthy Schools” held March 22-23 in Washington, D.C. The approximately 80 participants engaged in a series of activities designed to assist RWJF in setting its priorities related to fostering healthy schools as part of its initiatives to build a culture of health.
Kathleen A. Lawrence
Kathleen A. Lawrence, Communication and Media Studies Department, has received word that two of her poems will be published in Star*Line Magazine's October 2019 issue. Her poems are titled “Sailor Come Home” and “The Nonpareils: As Told by the Woman in the Gingerbread House,” which is a retelling of the German fairytale, Hansel & Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. Star*Line Magazine is the print journal of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association.
David Kilpatrick
David Kilpatrick, Psychology Department, will have his article, “Phonological Segmentation Assessment is Not Enough: A Comparison of Three Phonological Awareness Tests With First and Second Graders,” published in an upcoming issue of the Canadian Journal of School Psychology.
