Kerri Freese, Gregory D. Phelan and Gauri Kolhatkar

Kerri Freese, SUNY Cortland Noyce Project, Gregory D. Phelan, Chemistry Department, and mathematics graduate student Gauri Kolhatkar, attended the Sixth Annual National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Conference titled “Building Excellence in STEM Teaching.” STEM is the acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The conference, held in Washington D.C., brought together Noyce Scholars and faculty from more than 300 Noyce Scholarship programs throughout the country. SUNY Cortland presented a poster on its recruitment techniques to meet its goal of distributing scholarships to future math and science teachers. To date, the College has distributed 35 scholarships to 27 future teachers. SUNY Cortland currently tops the nation with its Noyce Scholarship distribution.

Melissa Morris

Melissa Morris, Physics Department, coauthored a paper titled “Planetary Embryo Bow Shocks as a Mechanism for Chondrule Formation,” that was accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal.  

Also, Morris was formally appointed as adjunct faculty in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University, facilitating her ongoing collaborations with this major research university.

Kaitlin Flannery

Kaitlin Flannery, Psychology Department, had her article, “Breaking Up (With a Friend) Is Hard to Do: An Examination of Friendship Dissolution Among Early Adolescents,” published March 24 in The Journal of Early Adolescence.  

Caroline Kaltefleiter

Caroline Kaltefleiter, Communication and Media Studies Department, participated in a panel discussion titled, “Care Protesting Care Protesting” held Sept. 28 at the Kunstal Charlottenborg at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen, Denmark. During her tenure at the Kunstal Charlottenborg, she attended the exhibition “Post-Capital: Art and the Economics of the Digital Age” and took part in follow-up lectures and discussions.  

In October, Kaltefleiter discussed her research on “Do-It-Yourself Media Campaigns” with colleagues at the Copenhagen University and Aalborg University in Denmark. 

Nance Wilson

Nance Wilson, Literacy Department, presented “Teacher Candidates: Teaching and Learning with Technology to Improve Literacy Skills and Practices” at the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers Annual conference held in November in Costa Mesa, Calif. Also, Wilson co-authored an article titled “Reading, Writing and the Common Core Standards,” that was published in the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) Magazine.

Tadayuki Suzuki

Tadayuki Suzuki, Literacy Department, gave a presentation at the International Literacy Association Annual Convention on July 18 in St. Louis, Mo. The title of the presentation was “Promoting Social Justice and Reading Skills with Multicultural Informational Picture Books.”

Sonia Sharma

Sonia Sharma, Mathematics Department, recently had her article, “Real Operator Algebras and Real Completely Isometric Theory” accepted for publication in the journal Positivity.

Mark Dodds

Mark Dodds, Sport Management Department, was recently appointed to the editorial board of Sports Marketing Quarterly, a leading sport management journal.

Lorraine Berry

Lorraine Berry, Neovox project director, was selected to be a judge for The Guardian’s Not the Booker Book Prize. The article announcing the contest and its judges can be found online

Jordan Kobritz

Jordan Kobritz, Sport Management Department, presented at the 27th Annual Sport and Recreation Law Association Conference held Feb. 26-March 1 in Orlando, Fla. With Douglas Manning from Eastern New Mexico University, he discussed “Royal Pain: Hot Dog Throwing Mascot in Kansas City.” Kobritz and Jeffrey Levine, from University of Louisville, presented “NFL Concussion Lawsuit Settlement: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
