Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, is the author of the new paperback edition of his book, Guns across America: Reconciling Gun Rules and Rights, published by Oxford University Press. This edition is a revised version of the original edition published in 2015. The book has been favorably reviewed in the “New York Review of Books” and “The American Interest,” among other publications.
Kathleen Lawrence
Kathleen Lawrence, Communication and Media Studies Department, will have her poem “Love Note” released this month in The James Dickey Review. “Love Note” is written in the form of a spiraling abecedarian. Also, her haiku “Pillowcases stuffed” was published by Haikuniverse as part of their annual Halloween tradition of featuring haiku that deal with the senses of All Hollow’s Eve.
Kathleen A. Lawrence
Kathleen A. Lawrence, Communication Studies Department, recently received word that her poem “High Tea” has been nominated for the Best of the Net competition by Highland Park Poetry, for the first time. Her speculative poem “Vampirette” has been accepted for publication by Star*Line, the print journal of the international Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association. Her parallel haiku poem “Extracurricular” is forthcoming in Sonic Boom Journal. Her spiraling abecedarian poem “Curiously, Unexplainably Optimistic” will be published in the magazine Edify Fiction.
Chad Hovey
Chad Hovey, Art and Art History Department, submitted his graphic art works and was selected as a part of the America’s National Design Competition. His work will be shown in this year's 2012 Print Regional Design Annual. Three of the pieces will be on display at the faculty biannual in the Dowd Gallery from Tuesday, Oct. 30, through Saturday, Dec. 15. The opening reception for the Dowd Gallery event is Thursday, Nov. 1. Dowd Gallery is now located on the third floor of Main Street SUNY Cortland at 9 Main St. In addition, all of the pieces will be on display in San Francisco, Calif., next summer at the HOW conference in the Design Awards Gallery. His work also will be celebrated on Print Magazine’s website under the Regional Design review.

Szilvia Kadas, Art and Art History Department, was selected as one of the 2019 Design Incubation Fellows. As part of the Design Incubation Fellowship, Kadas participated in a three-day intensive workshop from Jan. 10 to 13, held at St. John’s University’s Manhattan campus.

Ann Blanton and Amanda Olson, Communication Disorders and Sciences Department, attended the Cortland Pride Festival held on July 13 to promote the Center for Speech, Language and Hearing Center's gender affirming voice care services.
Gender affirming voice services are dedicated to individuals who want to develop communication styles that are aligned with their gender identity and expression across all settings. These services are designed to educate and train clients to modify their voice through vocal pitch, intonation, resonance, articulation and voice quality as well as nonverbal communication. Gender affirming voice therapy can guide individuals to communicate in a way that feels authentic to them.
James A. Felton, III
James A. Felton, III, Institutional Equity and Inclusion Office, was elected president of the Iota Iota Lambda Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for the 2019-20 academic year. Alpha Phi Alpha is the first African-American, intercollegiate Greek-lettered fraternity founded on Dec. 4, 1906 at Cornell University.
