The fourth meeting of the Faculty Senate 2010-2011 was called to order by Chair David Miller on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 1:15 PM in Jacobus Lounge, Brockway Hall.

I APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: There was a motion for approval of the minutes from October 14, 2010 (Approved)
II SENATE ACTIONS:
There was a vote to approve the amendment “Proposed Addition/Modification to the 2008-2010 SUNY Cortland College Handbook, (With a proposed amendment to Section H,1.b. in regards to the membership of the committee indicated by italicized text, Chapter 150.03 SUNY CORTLAND FACULTY BYLAWS, ARTICLE VII: COMMITTEES (Approved; 15/1/3)
There was a vote to approve the amendment to the “Proposed Addition/Modification to the 2008-2010 SUNY Cortland College Handbook, (With a proposed amendment to Section H,1.b. in regards to the membership of the committee indicated by italicized text, Chapter 150.03 SUNY CORTLAND FACULTY BYLAWS, ARTICLE VII: COMMITTEES
to add “teaching faculty” to the phrase in Section H, 1.c. “One member representing the Library (Not Approved; 4/11)
There was a vote to approve the amendment to “Proposed Addition/Modification to the 2008-2010 SUNY Cortland College Handbook, (With a proposed amendment to Section H,1.b. in regards to the membership of the committee indicated by italicized text, Chapter 150.03 SUNY CORTLAND FACULTY BYLAWS, ARTICLE VII: COMMITTEES to add the phrase to Section H.,1.c. “terms of office shall be three years and shall be staggered, except for student terms, which shall be one year” (Approved)

XI. AREA SENATOR’S REPORTS: There were no Area Senator’s reports.
XII. SUNY SENATOR’S REPORT – T. Phillips reported that as SUNY Senator Alternate he would be attending the Plenary at SUNY Alfred that weekend and encouraged those with concerns to contact him.
XIII. STUDENT SENATOR’S REPORTS: The students gave a brief report.
XIV. OLD BUSINESS: The Proposed addition/Modification to the 2008-2010 SUNY Cortland College Handbook, Chapter 150.03 SUNY Cortland Bylaws, Article VII: COMMITTEES was voted on and approved as amended and will go to a faculty referendum.
XV. OLD BUSINESS: There was no New Business.

Section H. Committee on Teaching Effectiveness 1. Membership a. A committee of seven members shall be nominated by the Committee on Committees and appointed by action of the Faculty Senate. b. Membership shall be as follows: One member representing the School of Arts and Sciences One member representing the School of Education One member representing the School of Professional Studies One member representing the Library Two at-large members from the academic faculty One student member with at least a junior standing (60+ credits) and at least one year of full-time attendance at SUNY Cortland c. Terms of office shall be three years and shall be staggered. 2. Duties a. To be responsible for the development and review of a standard CTE form to be utilized by faculty for the evaluation of their teaching. b. To approve individual department procedures for the collection of CTE data and to assure departmental compliance with the procedures outlined in Chapter 260.02 of the SUNY Cortland College Handbook. c. To approve alternative time schedules for the evaluation of teaching utilized by departments, due to exceptional circumstances, in keeping with the principle of regular, systematic, longitudinal evaluation of faculty. d. To make recommendations to the Faculty Senate regarding changes in the procedures and instrument utilized in the evaluation of teaching. e. In collaboration with the Faculty Development Center, to promote excellence in teaching through on-campus programming and seminars, which focus on issues, related to teaching. f. To make recommendations to the administration regarding resources that can be used by the faculty to improve teaching. Section I. Ad Hoc Committees 1.
