November 2, 2010
The fifth meeting of the Faculty Senate 2010-2011 was called to order by Chair David Miller on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 1:17 PM in Jacobus Lounge, Brockway Hall.

I. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: There was a motion for approval of the minutes from October 19, 2010 (Approved)
II. SENATE ACTIONS:
There were no Senate actions.
III. CHAIR’S REPORT:
The Chair thanked the Senators for their service.
IV. VICE CHAIR: T. Phillips – No report (absent)
V. TREASURER’S REPORT – K. Lawrence – The Treasurer reported that she has not heard back regarding Pay-Pal but encouraged individuals to pay the $10.00 dues.
VI. SECRETARY’S REPORT: - T. Vigars – No report.
VII. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: M. Prus gave a brief report for President Bitterbaum.
VIII. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Student Affairs Committee - M. Connell, Chair – No report (absent)
Academic Faculty Affairs Committee – A. Fitz-Gibbon, Chair – The chair reported that the committee
has reviewed policies from the Library, History and Kineseology, and are presently reviewing policies from
Geology. They are working with the secretaries to come up with some kind of method to ensure that
departments review their personnel policies and submit revisions once every three years. The committee,
at the request of the chair, is also looking at the exceptional clause from promotion to full professor in the
handbook and what is adequate.
Long-Range Planning Committee – No report (absent)
Educational Policy Committee – R. Spitzer, Chair – The Draft Proposal for Transfer Credit Limits from
the Educational Policy Committee was introduced and will be an agenda item under Old Business at the
next Faculty Senate meeting on November 16, 2010.
Professional Affairs Committee – G. Clarke, Chair – No report (absent)
X. OTHER COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Committee on Committees – T. Vigars read the report for the Committee on Committees. T. Vigars asked anyone who did not receive an electronic ballot for the Director of EOP Search Committee to contact her or J. Barry.
College Research Committee – P. Ducey, Chair – No report (absent)
General Education Committee – A. Thomas, Chair – O. White reported that the GE Committee
has been meeting and is beginning the process of reviewing data from the assessment from last year
and forming the groups that are collecting the syllabi for this year’s review.
XI. AREA SENATOR’S REPORTS: There were no Area Senator’s reports.
XII. SUNY SENATOR’S REPORT – No report.
XIII. STUDENT SENATOR’S REPORTS: The students gave a brief report.
XIV. OLD BUSINESS: There was no Old Business.
XV. NEW BUSINESS: The New Business Draft Proposal for Transfer Credit Limits from the Educational Policy Committee was introduced by R. Spitzer and will be voted on at the next Faculty Senate meeting on November 16.

410.10 ACADEMIC CREDIT FROM OTHER COLLEGES
B. Credit From Other Colleges
SUNY Cortland students must complete at least 45 credit hours for the degree at SUNY Cortland to meet the College’s residency requirement. In addition, one half the credit hours for the major, minor and/or concentration must be completed at SUNY Cortland. Students matriculated at the College can receive credit for course work taken at other colleges if they receive prior approval from the appropriate associate dean.
Only course work satisfactorily completed at regionally accredited collegiate institutions will be accepted. Usually credit is allowed only for those courses in which a grade of C- or better has been earned. However, credit may be granted for D grades if the student has received an associate of arts (A.A.), associate of science (A.S.) or any bachelor’s degree at the time of first admission to SUNY Cortland. Transfer students from four-year colleges or universities may receive additional credit hours toward degree requirements at

Transfer Credit Limits and Residency Requirement
SUNY Cortland grants the maximum number of transfer credits possible. The following guidelines and policies apply to transfer credit evaluation:
