Jaclyn Lawrence ’12, Athletics Department, was invited to participate in the Syracuse Crunch Women in Sports Panel held Friday, March 31 at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown. The event was held prior to the Crunch game.
Panelists also included Syracuse Crunch Vice President of Communications and Digital Media Megan Cahill, American Hockey League Vice President of Hockey Operations Haley Moore, Learfield Syracuse Sports Properties Manager of Partnership Services Ally McConaughy and New York Islanders Community Relations Manager Jackie Decker.
Jean W. LeLoup
Jean W. LeLoup, Professor Emerita (Spanish), International Communications and Culture, and the U.S. Air Force Academy, along with USAFA colleagues Dan Uribe and Terrence Haverluk, has published “Assessing Intercultural Competence Growth using Direct and Indirect Measures” in the January issue of The NECTFL Review, 73. This article reports the findings of a study conducted at USAFA to explore and assess the intercultural competence of cadets using a variety of instruments.
Rhiannon Maton
Rhiannon Maton, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, recently co-edited a special issue on the #RedForEd educator union strikes for Critical Education journal. The issue is titled “Understanding the 2018 Statewide Walkouts” and is part of the “Contemporary Educator Movements: Transforming Unions, Schools and Society” special series that Maton co-edits for the same journal.
Gregory D. Phelan
Gregory D. Phelan, Chemistry Department, had his paper, “Properties and Structure of Two Fluorinated 1,10-phenanthrolines,” accepted for publication later this year in the peer-reviewed Journal of Fluorine Chemistry. Also, Phelan had his 15th United States Patent issued on Feb. 10. The patent, 8,952,102, is titled “Alkyl ether compositions and methods of use.”

Hugh Anderson, International Programs Office, will present “Preparing Students to Study Abroad More Sustainably” on Oct. 5 at the Association of International Educators (NAFSA) All-Region Summit.
Susan Rayl
Susan Rayl, Kinesiology Department, has had three book reviews published. Her review of Racism and the Olympics, by Robert G. Weisbord, was published this summer in the Journal of Sport History, a peer-reviewed journal. The Sport Literature Association published her reviews online of Greatness in the Shadows: Larry Doby and the Integration of the American League, by Douglas M. Branson, on July 17, and Wartime Basketball: The Emergence of a National Sport During World War II, by Douglas Stark, on Sept. 6.
Greg Sharer
Greg Sharer, vice president of student affairs, was a panelist at the 2019 NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Conference in Los Angeles, Calif. The panel consisted of selected authors of the recently published book, Crisis, Compassion, and Resiliency in Student Affairs: Using Triage Practices to Foster Well-Being. NASPA is the acronym for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
