English Department faculty members Heather Bartlett, Ross Borden, Jack Carr, Mary Lynch Kennedy, Christine Lemchak, Deborah Rogers and Anne Wiegard completed an intensive, week-long media literacy course in August at Project Look Sharp at Ithaca College. They received training in the theory and practice of media literacy, learned applications for digital technology and developed media literacy projects for their courses.
Rhiannon Maton
Rhiannon Maton, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, will serve as Visiting Scholar at the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and the Professions at Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY), for the 2024-2025 school year. She will examine the recent upsurge in U.S. higher education organizing efforts broadly, with a particular focus on community college organizing and bargaining.

Tiantian Zheng, Sociology/Anthropology Department, was invited by University of Las Vegas to deliver a campus-wide book talk on Nov. 13 on her book Tongzhi Living: Men Attracted to Men in Postsocialist China.
Thomas Hischak
Thomas Hischak, professor emeritus of theatre, has signed a contract with Rowman & Littlefield to write the non-fiction book 1939 At the Movies: A Chronicle of Hollywood's Greatest Year.

Tadayuki Suzuki, Literacy Department, had his article, “Realities of War: Using Picture Books to Teach the Social Effects of Armed Conflicts,” published in the Multicultural Education Magazine in August. He coauthored this article with Barbara Fiehn, Jeanine Huss, and Roxanne Spencer at Western Kentucky University.

Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, is the author of a book chapter titled “The Five Rules of Trump” for a new book on the Trump presidency, Presidential Leadership and the Trump Presidency, published by Palgrave Macmillan.

Varya McCaslin-Doyle, Information Systems and Security, passed her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam on May 19.
Carolyn Bershad
Carolyn Bershad, Counseling and Student Development centers, has learned that the office was awarded full re-accreditation for the 2014-15 year by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS). IACS is the only association that accredits counseling services on university and college campuses. Approval by IACS is dependent upon evidence of continuing professional development as well as demonstration of excellence in counseling performance. The office offers individual and group counseling for students, as well as consultation and outreach to the campus community.

Mark Dodds, Sport Management Department, had his paper titled “Is the Court of Arbitration of Sport Getting Serious About Corruption” presented for him at the National Conference of Sport Sciences Research in Tehran, Iran.
