Tiantian Zheng

Tiantian Zheng, Sociology/Anthropology Department, chaired a panel titled Queer Asias: Exploring the Intersections of Queer and Asian Studies” and presented a paper titled “Money, Class, and Money Boys in Postsocialist China,” at the Association of Asian Studies annual conference, held March 23 to 29 in Honolulu.

Celeste McNamara

 Celeste McNamara, History Department, was invited to give a lecture at The College of William and Mary in Virginia on April 1. Her talk was titled “Sin and Salvation: The Threat of Scandal in Early Modern Italy.” She also gave a workshop for the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Faculty on her forthcoming book on the reform of the Catholic Church in 17th century Italy. Finally, she guest-taught a class on European Reformations, introducing students to her research.

Tom Lickona

Tom Lickona, Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department, had his three-part review essay published in the January/February issue of MercatorNet, an Australian online newsletter. The essay is about the book, “Lost in Transition: The Dark Side of Emerging Adulthood,” by University of Notre Dame sociologist Christopher Smith. Smith’s interview study of 230 18- to 23-year-old young adults was the subject of a recent David Brooks column in The New York Times.

Dennis Weng

Dennis Weng, Political Science Department, was invited by the Taiwan newspaper, United Daily News, to submit an op-ed article published in a forthcoming issue on the topic of the recent (April) meeting between President Trump and President Xi from China. 

Brian Barrett

Brian Barrett, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had his book, Knowledge, Curriculum and Equity: Social Realist Perspectives, published this summer by Routledge. The book was co-edited with Ursula Hoadley, University of Cape Town, and John Morgan, University of Auckland, and contains a chapter by Barrett and Foundations and Social Advocacy Department colleagues Anne Burns Thomas and Maria Timberlake.

Katherine M. Polasek, Erik Lind, John Foley and Dan Jones '15, MS

Katherine M. Polasek and Erik Lind, Kinesiology Department, and John Foley, Physical Education Department, recently had their manuscript, “The Relationship of Sex and Sport Skill Type on Imagery Use among Division III Athletes,” published in the Journal of Sport Behavior. The manuscript was co-authored by former exercise science graduate student Dan Jones, ’15, MS, exercise science.

Willnide Lindor

Willnide Lindor, English Department, was accepted as a member of the 2022-2023 cohort for the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies’ RaceB4Race Mentorship Network. This Mellon-funded initiative based at Rutgers University connects established scholars with early career scholars to offer them research and career-development opportunities in the field of premodern critical race studies.

Mary McGuire

Mary McGuire, Political Science Department, will present her paper “Teaching Political Values Across Cultures: Clarifying U.S. Concepts of Individualism to Students in Beijing” on April 5 at the Midwest Political Science Association’s 70th Annual National Conference. The paper is based on work she did at Capital Normal University in Beijing during her 2009 sabbatical.

Tracy Hudson

Tracy Hudson, Physical Education Department, and the students in her Edu 470 class took part in a panel discussion at the 2022 International Alliance of Invitational Education World Conference via Zoom with university students from Hong Kong. The session title was “Creating a Culture of Care by Taking an I-CORT Stance: A Promising Theory of Practice for New Teachers Entering the Field.”

Mechthild Nagel, Philosophy Department and the Center for Gender and Intercultural Studies (CGIS), had her article, “Sicherheit statt Strafe” (Security Instead of Punishment) published in a gender studies forum by Netzwerk Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung NRW, Germany
